Barbados - the classic honeymoon destination
Barbados is a photographer's dream with its breathtaking scenic views and beauty, the spectacular rock formations that inhabit the Scotland District, an abundance of natural wonders and miles of white sandy beaches. Lucky travellers take the opportunity of partaking in nature trips to the highest peak of Barbados. Scenic views, cane fields and wildlife await any explorer who ventures above the clouds. For an area renowned for its relaxed accommodation and restaurants many honeymooners are guided to the east of Barbados, with it’s magnificent coast line and dramatic sun rises. A popular event to witness is the Crop-Over festival that stretches over three weeks and is alive with spirited calypso competitions, fairs and climaxing in a Carnival-like costume parade on the first Monday in August, Kadooment Day.
Activities in Barbados include visiting some of its romantic caves and taking a half a mile stroll up 1,200 feet through Turner's Hall Woods, these forests are filled with cedar trees, plants and trees original to the island. Visiting some of Barbados’ famous beaches like Bottom Bay, with it’s protection by jagged cliffs, tranquil waters and soft white sands allows any honeymooner the chance to indulge in one another.
Other activities within Barbados include surfing off the East coast, Sailing and game fishing off the south west coast and Scuba and Para-sailing off the West coast. Some other water activities to try while you are visiting Barbados is swimming with turtles. Barbados is the home to a very health population of hawksbill and leatherback turtles, which are being protected by the island from over fishing and destruction of their habitat. In certain monitored areas they have become accustomed to humans and are relatively tame. Honeymooners can swim with them as they feed and play amongst the coral.
Like many other tropical islands the Barbados accommodations can be found either on or next to the beaches with self catering opportunities and high class luxury catering for all. Depending on what type of honeymoon you are looking the Barbados offers accommodation throughout the island, if you are looking for nightlife and entertainment the something near one of the towns would be better but if you are looking for some a little more quite and relaxing then something situated within the countryside may help to enhance your stay.
The fact that Barbados is about a hundred miles from it’s nearest Caribbean neighbour and has a history of having British roots has made Barbados one of the UK’s most popular destinations for tropical holidays.
Barbados has a population of 279,000 people and it’s capital is Bridgetown. The time difference between the UK and Barbados is GMT -4 hours, with a flight time of 9 hours direct. Visas are not required for UK passport holders and the best time to travel is December to June. There is a possibility of tropical storms and rain from July to November.
