Fumba Lodge - Zanzibar

Fumba Lodge

From £1340 per person

Tour Code: SUP_ZD_ Fumba Lodge

Background:
Fumba Lodge is a delightful little place only 30 minutes south of Stone Town that has only recently opened. The lodge has now had the benefit of a full rainy season and the vegetation is at its best. This is a charming, un-commercialised lodge with only 26 rooms and which makes maximum use of its local assets. The two Baobab Suites, built either side of a huge baobab tree near the beach are an example of this. We like the look of Fumba very much...particularly if you want peace and total relaxation away from TVs, etc.

Accommodation:
Set in 40 acres of exquisite wilderness with three naturally sheltered beaches, Fumba Beach Lodge has only 26 rooms to ensure your privacy. The rooms are scattered throughout the extensive grounds, shaded by a forest of magnificent baobab trees and whispering palm fronds and cooled by gentle sea breezes. The rooms have ceiling fans but not air-conditioning.
Menai bay conservation area:
Menai Bay has been dedicated as a conservation area since 1998 due to its outstanding natural beauty. Established by the World Wildlife Federation (WWF), Menai Bay Conservation Area was designed to give Zanzibaris in the Fumba area a vested interest in their environment so they will protect it. The project is aimed at teaching villagers how to conserve their natural heritage, and how to profitably exploit it in a sustainable manner. Eco-tourism plays an important role in that profitability and Fumba Beach Lodge is the first and only lodge offering accommodation on the pristine Fumba Peninsula.

Entertainment:
The main attraction of Fumba is its three magificent baobab trees. One is located in front of the reception building, one is located next to the swimming pool and acts as the backdrop to the Dhow FumBar and the largest has been ingeniously used as the focal point for the two baobab suites. Close to the pool is the restauarnt and bar with its terrace area. Fumba has no gym, no entertainment room and no TV.
Safari Blue is a full day trip and includes use of top quality snorkeling equipment with guides and instructors, ice cold sodas, mineral water and beer, a delicious Zanzibari seafood lunch with grilled fish and slipper lobster, gastronomic fruit tasting, coffee and Amarula liqueur. Safari Blue explores the Menai Bay Conservation Area, which is home to two different species of dolphins, the Indo-pacific humpback and the bottlenose. We are lucky enough to see dolphins on 85% of our excursions Safari. In the morning we set down on one of the beautiful sandbanks where one can relax, swim or snorkel. There is plenty of good quality snorkeling equipment and the experienced snorkeling guides will show you the pristine coral reef, which teems with tropical sea life. Instruction is also available for beginners. After snorkeling cold drinks, fresh coconuts and local snacks.

Bars:
Fumba's unique beach bar was constructed from an authentic Zanzibari dhow. Situated under an enormous baobab on a seaside cliff, you will be absorbed by the idyllic setting to watch the sun go down.
