Real Life Honeymoon Feature - South Africa

Fiona and William tied the knot at Lochgreen House in Scotland and wanted a warm multi-centred honeymoon.

WHERE?

South Africa and Mozambique

WHEN?
March 2009

WHY?
We wanted to go somewhere a little bit different and where we would be the only honeymooners.

WHAT DID YOU DO?
In South Africa, we spent the first four days on safari at Lion’s Sands private game reserve. Our second stop was in the Drakensburg mountains. Here we stayed in a spa lodge and spent our days being pampered. The highlight was when we hired a helicopter to take us over the waterfalls! Our third stop was on the Bazaruto archipelago in Mozambique. We stayed at Indigo Bay on a tiny island off the main coast. Our final stop was a second island in this archipelago, Benguerra. The people here were really friendly and made our last few days unforgettable.

MOST ROMANTIC MOMENT?
A night in a tree house on safari, complete with five-star picnic.

IT’S GREAT FOR HONEYMOONERS BECAUSE…
… of the diverse activities on offer here. We loved having new experiences in each place we went to – whether it was tracking animals on safari, taking part in water sports, being thoroughly spoilt in the spa, or lazing with a few cocktails by the sea. It was also lovely not to be surrounded by lots of other honeymooners – that made us feel really special! I would do it all again in an instant.
